New Scam Artists: Nick Karson & Jeannie Raleigh

Thank you to the CL user who provided the following information. There are two new scam artists to avoid. They are calling themselves Nick Karson and Jeannie Raleigh. We believe they are attempting to victimize people through the classic overpayment scam. Essentially these people pose as buyers, email the seller and send them a bogus check for more than the selling price. Next the seller is suppose to wire them the extra funds. Of course the seller's bank will eventually catch the fake check and the seller is on the hook for the money.

Do not do business with these people, but you can stall them and waste their time. When considering this route, remember never to send personal information. Be creative because we need more info on these people.

Name: Nick Karson
Email: n.karson1000@gmail.com

Name: Jeannie Raleigh
Email: j.raleighx3@yahoo.com

I too have been contacted by Jeannie Raleigh (j.raleigh00q@googlemail.com) on 4/13/2009 saying her secretary made a mistake on the check and wanted me to moneygram the difference in the amounts back to her. I cancelled the transaction.

I was just contacted by her today about an item on craigslist and googled her name right away to find everyones comments. I have not had dialog back and forth with this person yet, but I can probably find out whatever we need to to put them away for a scam. Do we just need an address where they are at that is not a PO Box or what?? Let me know and I can try to get it.

I'm located in Virginia Beach and I was just contacted by Jeannie Raleigh last night 7/18/2009. She has changed her email address to j.raleighv6@gmail.com. I always google names and email address before doing any business over the internet, and yet again, it has saved my skin. She offered to send a cashiers check after I provided by name, address, phone number. It is fun to screw with these people up to the end, just before checks are mailed and deals are made. Lead them on as long as you can, it's fun.

I received an email as well and the email has changed to j.raleigh29@googlemail.com AND j.raleighx2@yahoo.com - told her I wanted cash and not deal with movers...because I was orginally suspicious when I noticed her name was jeanine raleigh and she spoke/typed with broken english? then after there was no plea to actually want the items in a follow up email I knew something was up so I decided today to look up the email address and I was right..Here is the email I received -- Hello,I really appreciate your response to my mail.I want you to consider the item sold, pls do withdraw the advert from craigslist to avoid disturbance and to be rest assured on my side that i have bought it.I want you to know that i will be paying via cashier's check .I will need you to provide me the following information to facilitate the mailing of the check...

I just received the same offer from good ol Jeannie. I'm semi unfamiliar with craiglist scams so i gave her some names, address and phone # before i figured it out. Just curious if there is anything she or they can do with that information? thanks

Okay...I'm so shocked right now I hardly have words. I was contacted by Jeannie Raleigh today about four separate posts on craigslist. I only happened to notice at the last minute that the email addresses were changing. By the time she got to the part about the cashiers check I decided to ask if we could take care of all transactions in person. I haven't heard back yet. In the meantime I found this site...THANK GOD! I feel outraged to think that this idiot keeps doing this with the same exact name and still hasn't gotten caught. What's wrong with this picture?

I also was contacted by j.raleigh02@gmail.com and it was obvious something was up. I didn't realize it until after a couple emails back and forth and her not really answering my questions. I told her I didn't want a check, cash only. Then she emailed me back that she had already mailed a check for $2500. Is there anything I can do with this check to trace it back to this crazy person to maybe help stop them? Or is a check not even really coming? By the way I have a solid wood table, and 4 matching chairs if anyone in the San Diego area is interested : ).
